From 2003 to 2004 I was president of the Mitre Players, the amateur dramatics society at Selwyn College, the University of Cambridge. I initiated and oversaw a production of Equus, and in doing so reinvigorated the society with fresh talent.
During my A-level studies at Hinchingbrooke School in 2001, I directed a successful production of A Government Inspector.
When I was in high school, I won a number of awards in forensic drama competition:
1st place in 'Improvisational Pairs' at Monmouth University's
The Leamington Observer described my performance in Mystery at Greenfingers as 'simply hilarious'.
The university newspaper Varsity called my performance in The Winter's Tale, 'true comedy'.
The Cambridge Student called Fire Raisers 'truly impressive'; the scenes including me were 'excellent', and my performance exuded 'a sickly, sinister charm'.
Varsity described the acting in The Dumb Waiter as 'Perfect': 'Joyner captures the hapless, jabbering but ultimately more impressive Gus'. TCS said the performance had 'movie-like slickness, as if it was the best of several takes'.
Varsity said of my performance in The Tempest that it was good to see 'Shakespearean comedy executed so effectively'.
